Studying in Bern in Six Steps

Step 1: You are interested in an Erasmus stay

Search for information at your Home-University and follow its registration procedure.

Step 2: On-line Application at the University of Bern

Once you have been accepted as an exchange student by your Home University, you will receive an e-mail from the International Office at the University of Bern with further information on the application procedure.

Application deadline is the 30th of April for fall semester or the 30th of September for spring semester.

Step 3: Grants, Finances, Accommodation, Language Courses, etc.

In April you will receive an Email confirming your application as an Erasmus student and your request for an Erasmus grant.

In June, the International Office will inform you about your grant, how to find accomodation, how much money you will need for your stay in Bern, which language courses are offered, when the orientation week will take place, insurance matters, etc.

Step 4: Study Program, Learning Agreement, Exam and Transcript of Records

You are responsible for your study programs; contact the person in charge at your University.

At the University of Bern, your Erasmus-Coordinator will help you. Be aware that some courses accept a limited number of students.

Once you are in Bern, get in touch with your Erasmus-Coordinator.

Ask in time when exams take place. Be aware that some of the exams might be held after the semester. - Check your lease agreement in Bern: can you stay in your accommodation as long as needed?

Step 5: Orientation Week

During the orientation week you must register at the International Office and you have to attend all the sessions of orientation week. You will receive your personal E-Mail account, your University registration card, your grant and you will meet international and local students.

Step 6: Transcript of records

Before leaving Bern, ask for your transcript of recors, fill in the form "Notenmeldeblatt für Erasmusstudierende" and send it back to your Erasmus Coordinator.
